Tape Solutions for Thermal Spray

Thermal Spray Masking Tape Options

Many types of thermal spray masking tapes are available, including silicone rubber-coated glass cloth, multi-layer, foil, and glass cloth.  

• Silicone rubber-coated glass cloth tapes offer a desired balance between multiple key properties. The silicone rubber layer aids in thermal spray coatings, bouncing off the masking tape while maintaining good conformability, moderate abrasion resistance and clean masking edges. These tapes are often used through grit blasting and thermal coating steps, eliminating the cost associated with reapplying another layer of tape.   
• Thick, multi-ply tapes are often used in the harshest, most demanding thermal spray processes, such as HVOF. Although these tape configurations sacrifice conformability compared to thinner single ply tapes, they offer the abrasion and burn-through resistance required in high temperature and high spray velocity applications. 
• Foil Tapes are highly conformable for parts with complex geometries or hard-to-reach areas while offering good abrasion resistance. They maintain clean edges upon removal and are designed with clean removal adhesive. 
• Glass Cloth Tapes are the most economical thermal spray masking products available. They can be used as a base masking layer in high temperature and pressure spray operations, or as the main layer in less severe processes. Glass cloth tapes are among the most conformable types of tape offered in thermal spray applications.
