Tape Solutions for Medium Temperature Electrical Insulation Tapes
Power grid components like oil-type transformers are used in power distribution or electrical substations and require special designed products to ensure full performance of their core and coils which are immersed in oil for cooling and insulation. Our tapes designed for thermal classes ranging from 105°C to 155°C are ideal for oil filled transformer designs and lower temperature motor, generator and dry transformer applications by combining Nomex® Aramid Paper or PET substrates paired with either acrylic or thermosetting rubber adhesive. Their outstanding oil compatibility, absorption properties and high tensile strength ensure reliable protection, stress resistance and freedom of design.
Nomex Aramid Paper Tapes
Nomex Aramid Paper Tapes with acrylic (Class F, 155°C) or rubber (Class B, 130°C) adhesives are an ideal choice to guarantee puncture resistance and absorption and are excellent for use in resin filled transformers or motors.
Glass cloth tapes
Glass cloth tapes with acrylic or rubber adhesives are an excellent insulation material for applications with medium thermal class ranges that require high adhesion. Glass cloth tapes are used in many coil winding processes where resistance to puncture and abrasion resistance are necessary along with high tensile strength. Options are available in black, ideal for outer wrap insulation aesthetics.
Polyester tapes
Polyester (PET) tapes combined with rubber or acrylic adhesive are available in a wide range of thicknesses and colors. PET tapes are thin and conformable with high dielectric strength commonly used for end-winding insulation in motors/generators or outer wrap insulation in toroidal coils. Double coated PET tapes with high initial tack are ideal for securing insulating material such as slot liner in a motor/generator.
Glass filament reinforced tapes
Glass filament reinforced tapes are very common in heavy banding and holding applications especially those found in large scale coil winding processes to secure insulation layers. Thermal capabilities range from Class B (130°C) (rubber adhesive) to Class F (155°C) (acrylic adhesive). The tensile strength for these products is superior to glass cloth tape. The reinforced backings include polyester, which has a higher dielectric strength compared to glass cloth, or paper, which offers excellent absorption properties for oil filled transformer applications. Versions with acrylic adhesive offer better chemical resistance to oils and solvents.
Laminated PET film tapes
Laminated PET film tapes include a conformable fleece layer which offers great tear and puncture resistance compared to polyester. They are an excellent choice for securing phase insulation in a motor or generator end-winding region. Options are available with acrylic adhesive which offers Class F (155°C) and high adhesion or thermosetting rubber adhesive which offers Class 130°C and high initial tack.
Polyimide and Kapton® Tapes
Polyimide and Kapton Tapes with acrylic adhesive are setting the industry standard in medium temperature electrical insulation. The unique combination of electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties makes these tapes ideal choices for applications where strong resistance and dielectric strength is needed.
Copper foil tapes
Copper foil tapes with conductive acrylic adhesive for static electricity discharging and shielding from electromagnetic/ electrostatic fields.
