What Are PFAS? Understanding Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances

Let’s start with a bit of science. PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are a large family of over 10,000 synthetic compounds. They contain carbon chains where hydrogen atoms are fully or partially replaced by fluorine. This carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest in chemistry, making PFAS extremely resistant to breakdown over time.
