Mold Release Tapes for Composite Molding
Manufacturing large parts with composite molds is complex, cost- and labor extensive and companies worldwide need solutions to increase the efficiency of production processes. Saint-Gobain® mold release tapes are key components to ensure longer life of fabrics and fewer defects in composite molding by creating smooth, non-stick surfaces while being conformable and temperature resistant. They help to minimize the number of seams in a mold, allow for clean release, leave no residue and can be designed to make a textured surface finish on the composite part to minimize post-production efforts, create cost savings and longer material lifetime.
PTFE glass cloth laminate tape
Our CHR® PTFE Glass Laminate Tapes are proprietary products that, due to the unique manufacturing process, are free of cracks and pinholes in the surface. The lack of surface flaws and a higher PTFE thickness above the fiberglass layer gives the fabric longer life and fewer defects imprinted onto composite parts. In some applications, the tape can last 20 times as long as the lower grade options.
PTFE with glass fabric reinforcement provides dimensional stability, high tensile strength, edge tear resistance and better abrasion resistance than PTFE film tapes. The PTFE surface offers quick release and chemical resistance characteristics and can help to minimize the number of seams in a mold for large parts. In addition to giving a smooth surface finish on composite parts, primary glass fabrics offer an ideal balance of performance and cost.
PTFE film tape
CHR PTFE Film Tapes are designed to help minimize the number of seams in a mold for large parts. PTFE film tapes help to extend the life of the mold by preventing any resin material from penetrating through the seam joint. They facilitate release of part from the mold without creating any imperfection to the finished part, offer good mechanical strength to the joint and have excellent chemical resistance against resin material.
